Should I be driving my van with oil pressure problems.?

What does it means when the oil pressure gauge pointer stays closer to the ';H'; not on the ';H'; but heading that way. whether the car has been setting for hour or driving it never moves. I had a oil change two months ago. This just started like maybe two days ago.Should I be driving my van with oil pressure problems.?
Hi Tina, I have been working on cars for most of my 54 years. If your engine is not rattling I would not be afraid of this problem. When you loose oil pressure, the engine rattles loudly. I would think from what you indicate that the gage or sending unit is bad. It could even be a loose wire! As others have stated, H is a good thing! If you are frightened by the problem, then by all means get it to a mechanic. ASAP. But, I hope that you are not beside yourself with fear. It sounds minor. In some cases, the oil pump relief valve will stick and cause high oil pressure. But this is very rare. Again, no rattle, no fear. Have it checked out, but do not panic.Should I be driving my van with oil pressure problems.?
54 years, or not, by the time you figure out what that

';Rattle'; noise is, you can Throw a Piston Rod and

destroy your engine.

Get it fixed immediately. It's nothing to guess at. Report Abuse

Girl....get it looked at asap because I just my car for similar reasons. My engine locked up and now I am without a new car. My insurance would not cover any of it and the car warranty wouldn't not cover because they said It was neglect.

Get someone to look at it, try not to drive it until then.
I would defenetly have that checked out...It could be nothing, but is better not to take the chance that your engine overheat due to lack of oil and endup having to replace it...Let me tell you, engines are not cheep... So you end up waisting a few bucks now...that is better than spending way too many bucks later...not to mention posibly getting stranded some ware. That is if you don't have AAA!!!
have this checked out. the mechanic will charge you

less than a whole new engine would cost.
yeah, u should so your car can break down, and u will be in trouble, which is good!!!
If your van is not running and its on the H you would have to get your gauge fixed but in the meantime change your oil you should have a sticker in the upper left hand side (driver side) of the windshield showing when your oil needs to be changed it should have a date and/or mileage of next oil change
Should a pilot fly a plane drunk? Both questions are a no...seize your engine and your looking at a huge repair bill.
I'd go over to your local mechanic as fast as you can. Even though it's showing as high, since it just started something weird is going on.
Its most likely a gauge problem, get it checked with a master gauge at the mechanics,it should be safe enough to drive there as H means high oil pressure.Dont go on a road trip with it though.
The ';H'; stands for high oil pressure. Check your oil level with the dipstick. If it's OK find a shade tree mechanic who can check the pressure with an aftermarket gauge. The oil pressure on the gauge should be somewhere between 20 and 65 psi. Don't worry if the oil pressure falls. Your vehicle has fuel injection and the running signal is the oil pressure. Lose oil pressure and the fuel pump shuts down. This is a safety feature in case the car is in an accident and the engine is not running. The fuel pump shuts off to avoid pumping gasoline everywhere and causing a fire.

High oil pressure is not a problem, it means that the engine is is good shape.
NO! Go get your Van checked out! It could be as simple as a blown fuse making the light come on but it could mean that you have too much oil pressure but it's just safest to go get it checked out !!!

(from somebody else besides who did your oil change)
sounds like a failing oil pump. keep driving it and you might lock up the engine.
You should check your oil level, and if you don't know how, have someone else do it. You can't always rely on oil guages to function properly, but any changes should be checked out.
Are you sure you are looking at the oil pressure gauge and not at the temperature gauge? If it is the temperature gauge, stop driving immediately and get it checked.

If it is the oil gauge, then you may have a faulty gauge, faulty oil pressure sending unit, faulty oil pump, or simply too much oil in the engine.

Check the oil dipstick. Pull it out, wipe it, put it back in, and then pull it out again. Make sure the oil level is within the marks. If it is too high, you need to have some of the oil removed. Otherwise, you could have one of the problems outlined above.

It will probably be ok to drive it a little bit, but definitely get it checked out.
H MEANS GOOD L MEANS BAD.

L LOW MEANS VALVES/CRANK PROB SHOT- THUS MOTOR SHOT. IE LOW OIL PRESSURE.

H MEANS GOOD OIL PRESSURE.

YOU OR A FRIEND CAN CHECK OIL LEVEL ON DIP STICK-SHOULD READ FULL MARK.

HAVE A MECHANIC CHECK IT OUT.

WHEN IN DOUBT-DON'T WAIT IT OUT.

VAN OLDER OR NEW?

ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP?

DOES IT WHINE/HUM WHEN YOU TURN IGNITION ON./

let mechanic do quick check.

motors aren't cheap.

ON MY FORD 150 CHANGE OIL/FILTER/AIR FILTER EVERY 5000 MILES.

ON MUSTANG EVERY 3000 MILES .

ON FORD NAVIGATOR 3000-4000 BECAUSE TOWING BOAT.

I take all my vehicles-including tractors to one shop when I don't do the work myself. Been dealing with these guys for over 30 years. (1974) They are the experts I rely on.
No this will only give you more problems
this is trouble to your engine see a AAA vendor you'll get the right answer
lady is that gauge for the radiator or oil prerssure? oil pressure gauge only shows number with a needle. if it is a radaitor gauge there might be your water pump having problem or radiator leakage. you better do iut fast or you engine will overheat that will cost you alot.
No.

There must be oil leaking.

You can see it on the floor when you take out the van from the place where you had parked overnight.
When you got the oil changed, they probably put too much oil in. Have someone/you check the oil. If it's high, take it back where you had it serviced.

I've had that happen in a diesel engine, but that was because fuel was going into the oil.
you shouldnt drive it except to the oil place where you had your oil changed tell them whats wrong and they'll fix it
If you are familiar with where your oil pressure needle is at all times a small drop wont hurt and more than likely it is the oil cenion unit going bad and making your oil pressure guage a little aratic but you should go to some one who is trained to diagnose the problem
all depends on how old the vehicle is but if u just had the oil changed they most likey over filled it and if u let it go for to long it could either cause seals to fail or start fowling spark plugs due to oil getting in the cylinders ,,,but if it has a lot of miles on it u might have a oil pump going out or the crankshaft or camshaft bearings could be going out (camshaft most possible)
You're frying the engine if you're dealing with oil problems in your car.
Sounds like they put to much oil in it. take it to a different place and get it done again and see if that fixes it. Besides your close to needing it done again anyway.
Check the oil you might need to add a quart or two
When in doubt check it out~

Can't hurt to have it checked to be safe!

May save you $$$ in the long run and give you some peace of mind..
Your oil guage just might be going bad......
no go take it in to get checked
Don't mess around with oil problems. It only takes 30 seconds of no oil pressure to totally destroy your engine!

Although high oil pressure is good, too high to be true is the same as having no way to tell! The oil pressure sensor may not be connected well. Or your pressure may truly be high, but because the oil is not thick enough.

Since expensive, permanent damage can result from irregularities in the lubrication of the engine (the oil and pump), I say don't mess around, get it checked out by a good, trustworthy mechanic. Even if it turns out normal, its good to establish a relationship with a good mechanic, just like a good doctor or dentist.
don't know what your car says when it says H...maybe it means ';hot';.

When my car's red light came on I had about 1 mile to get to my home, all downhill so I let it drive me home without much effort on my part. When I got home I lifted the hood and smoke came out and the water was dry and there was oil all over. One mechanic said the oil cap has lost its seal and to buy another oil cap and I did. But another mechanic said there's an oil leak somewhere and that he was going to pressure wash it to get the oil off of the belts and then will look for the leak. So what I'm saying is for you to see if there is any leak, also check the fluids (radiator and oil) and if anything is low then fill it to the mark. Take your vehicle in and have a mechanic check it over.
