That year of Impala is known for intake gaskets leaking...coolant leaking into your oil and could cause a misfire...that's why your check engine light came on. If the light flashes, DON'T drive. i haven't seen any with steam coming out of the oil cap before unless you have a cracked head on it,that's just not normal for one to do that,what you might be seeing is a light film of smoke coming from it,but have it checked,to be sure,good luck.
I hope you didn't put the injector cleaner in the oil. That goes in the gas tank.
