What are some possible problems associated with rusty engine oil?

I changed the oil in my 2003 Dodge Stratus the other day and found that the oil had rust floating in it. The car is a four cylinder and I change the oil regularly; every 5000 miles with a synthetic oil. The car is parked outside 99.9% of the time, could that have something to do with it, and is this a problem that needs to be addressed or is it insignificant? What are some possible problems associated with rusty engine oil?
First off....rust doesn't float...so are you sure that's what it was?? I've never observed rust in oil...even in engines with significant coolant in the oil. I'd drive it a few hundred miles and change the oil again to see what it looks like%26gt;What are some possible problems associated with rusty engine oil?
It might not be rust! I send an oil sample to Blackstone Laboratories about every 25 thousand miles. They can tell you exactly the composition of the oil and its contaminates. From the contaminates you are better able to tell the problems, like a broken head gasket, intake air leaks etc. For better help I would check out the oil forum on www.bobistheoilguy.com
leaving it sit outside would,nt do it. mine sits outside all the time. you could try changing it more often like every 3000 miles. if it don,t stop it from looking that way then you could have a leaking head gasket.
Oil doesn't rust, rust doesn't float, and even if you did find rust in the oil, the oil pump screen would stop the debris from running through the engine.
