Is clutch life affected by whether I use synthentic or conventional transmission oil?

2005 Subaru WRXIs clutch life affected by whether I use synthentic or conventional transmission oil?
No, clutch life isn't affected - your Subaru has a dry clutch assembly. The oil never contacts it. (Motorcycles have wet clutches, so the answer might be different, in that case.)

And in response to ';cutebroad'; - you really should learn what YOU are talking about. All car transmissions have some kind of fluid in them, whether they're automatic or manual. Automatics have a hydraulic fluid, manuals have heavy weight oil - which is what albo888888 was asking about. Is clutch life affected by whether I use synthentic or conventional transmission oil?
Automatic transmissions are usually filled with.. Automatic Transmission Fluid :) It's basically motor oil with a lot of added detergents. While it is used to exert hydraulic pressure, it's not the same as hydraulic fluid, which would eat away at the internal clutchs and friction surfaces. Report Abuse

Yes, I would use synthetic, but check your owners manual first!!! also, changing from one type to another can be bad for a vehicle, just like mixing two different blood types. For almost any fluid, I would recomend sticking with what you got, unless you are rebuilding the part of the vehicle that contains that fluid. (with the main exceptions being radiator, and washer fluid). But as stated, it does not contact the clutch, changing can shorten transmission life.
no your clutch is not affected but you dont use transmision fluid you use gear fluid on stick trannis
