Who is a bigger source for the oil problems?

A person in a city who drives a SUV or someone who lives 50 miles from their job and drives a Prius?Who is a bigger source for the oil problems?
Put the blame on Congress.

They've sat on there As* since the problem surfaced in 1972.

And again 1983.

President Reagan pressed Congress to enact an energy bill.

With all the hatred of Bush, He asked for an energy bill from day one.

EPA, most of Congress from both parties did nothing.

Now, we have the Democratic controlled Congress screaming NO to drilling, NO to nuclear power.

Listen to the BS coming out of the mouth of Nancy Pelosi and the Dems from California and Florida.

NO drilling near our shores.

It's OK that we in Texas have rigs off our shores, as Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi do.

Jaysus, we're building a refinery in Australia, and Saudi Arabia, but hell NO, not in USA.

There's more damned oil in the Gulf than we can use in years, and by that time we can develop other sources.

Drilling has to go down through 1,000 feet of water, then 2,000-3,000 deeper, but it's there.

Put the blame where it belongs.

WASHINGTON, DC.

Oil drilling does not create GUSHERS anymore. That was 100 years ago. They cap a well immediately. Oil is not lost and spread all over hell.

I was in Maracaibo, Venezuela. They have tons of oil under that lake.

NOT a drop of pollution in that water.

I've spoken with those who explore in the Gulf.

You won't see any improvement from the Dems in this election either.Who is a bigger source for the oil problems?
The US government and the Fed are source. Spending more dollars that we have created an impossible national debt now past 9.35 TRILLION dollars. Lowering the discount rate increases the supply of dollars, which increases the rate of inflation. That inflation is now running out of control, we see it in the price of gas and almost everything else we buy today.

The people with the SUV or the Prius are to blame only to the extent that they elect bad government.

Again this election there's nobody willing to tackle the mess, or even talk about it.
That's a difficult question... I would say the prius driving 50 miles both ways is a bigger problem for oil consumption.

Logic might suggest the SUV is more problematic but realistically it consumes gas in a different way. Anyone who lives in a city or a dense metropolitan area knows that the need for a car, truck, motorcycle... any form of transportation that you have to care for really... isn't really a necessity. Effectively what an SUV owner would be doing it gassing up when they need to drive somewhere, and then letting their car sit in a garage or parking lot for 2 1/2 days. They're almost stockpiling gas in a way. Therefore their usage is much more calculating because theres so many more forms of transportation available to them, and less of a need to rely on their own vehicle.

The prius on the other hand is just the most economical alternative to high gas prices, on average getting 43-47mpg.
Neither, it the terrorist who threatens to blow up an oil field or refinery. That scares investors, market price goes up (to account the cost for research for a new field, clean up crew or build new refinery). That raise gets passed on to the consumer. The further away and or less of a direct well traveled route a consumer lives from the source, the more things can go wrong. Right now with the war, oil embargo to America and alias are being attack, which is why our gas prices are ';sooo'; high.

There is not a shortage. America own many oil field in the States that will supply us for over 50 years easily. But environment bills passed restricts Americans drilling for oil in or own backyard. We are force to buy others oil rights.

Fight congress to allow oil drilling in Texas, the Gulf and in Alaska to relieve the price crunch. Fight congress to lower taxes on imported oil and oil products to relieve the price crunch!
flagranty driving the suv is the bigger problem, no matter where they go they will use a huge amount of gas. The prius is a vehicle that will always get good gas milage.

People have lived a long way from work from a long time. If they are going to a city job they can drive to the nearest mass trasportation station and catch that to their job. The SUV driver shouldn't be taking any car to work, but use other mass trans.
Neither one. They both use gasoline - it is the only fuel available at this time and there is no other choice. They are merely consumers being gouged by poor energy policies adopted by Congress which cause a shortage of domestic fuel.

Our government has gotten us into this mess of shortages and high prices by prohibiting oil companies from drilling and processing the oil we have in our own country. We are the 3rd largest producer of oil in the world and have some of the largest proven reserves beneath our feet, yet our oil companies are banned from developing theses resources.
All Americans with their HUGE gas guzzling auto's

Why can the whole rest of the planet downscale to small engines EXCEPT the USA?? I don't get it.

Why is the USA the ONLY country that refuses to ratify the Kyoto protocol?

Then the hideous wars for OIL like in Iraq wouldn't be necessary, people wouldn't have to die and MY country wouldn't have to carry the Enormousoil related inflation consequences.

Most people can now barely afford a bread. We don't get subsides for gasoline, parafin, benzin. Neither for our farming.

It makes me very angry AND a huge reason why the world is becoming extremely anti-American. Your president didn't help the cause.

Americans don't even know that the world is not so positive towards them anymore because they live in a bubble and brainwashed/influenced through their media. They are starting to lose friends.

Just buy a ';normal'; car with a small engine or Ertgas/petrolium combo and thus contribute to the planet positively

EVERYTHING can be done without oil

I am not trying to be abusive here. I am simply trying to create awareness regarding the energy crisis... Oil won't last forever. The planet has many other natural energy resourses.

Brazilians drive on sugar cane...
umm, HELLO **** THEM.

think about the oil companies milking every last profit from oil. There are heaps of alternatives they wont allow like the electric car and alternative reneable fuels. FUCKRS.

one of my friends is set for life when he discovered a great way to avoid using oil and now he is retired and set for life but they use his idea.
Neither. Had we responded to 9/11 by making a trillion dollar investment into bio-fuels instead of trying to occupy a key middle-eastern country, we would have spent less money over-all, had over 4,000 more living American soldiers and, by now, we would have been able to tell OPEC to pound sand (and oil) because we no longer be needing their black poison.
Probably the SUV . Depends on how much they drive

As the prius driver would use ~ 2.1 gallons to get to work and back. An SUV in the city could travel ~ 23 miles on that 2.1 gallons , if they drive more then that then they would be using more gas
the biggest problem in oil is DRAINAGE, if i had a milkshake and you had a milkshake, and my straw, went all the way over to your milkshake, i would drink it up, i would drink your milkshake, i would drink it up
It depends on alot of factors and how well the car is maintained. But i think the SUV even though its less distance and want not a SUV uses more gas cause city driving is worse for gas milage then long distance travel.
too many factors involved to make an assumption on that... what kind of SUV, driving techniques, proper maintenance on vehicle, the amount of traffic involved.. etc etc etc..
It depends on how much that person in the city drives their SUV. Usually, in towns and cities, people get less miles per gallon, so I'd lean toward the SUV driver.. o_o
neither it is the speculators who bid the prices up on the NYMEX.

it is also the goverment w/ their stupid drilling policies
The monopoly conglomerates. Every single oil executive needs to die and be executed.
the speculators driving up the prices
It would help if we got some OPTIMISTIC speculators.
Both, about the same. SUV's have gotten better lately as far as mileage goes.
