I have a 1966 mustang with a 95 mustang engine. used older style intake and carb. the driver side header is full of oil. It seems that every time I rev the engine, even just a little bit, the oil sprays out and lands on the header causing smoke. Why would this happen and where could it be coming from? Already changed rear main, oil pan, and valve cover seals.I have oil leakage problem every time I give the car gas out of right side of engine, why?
The best route would be to clean off all of the oil that you can and then have someone start the car while you look at the drivers side of the engine. I assume that the oil is not actually ';spraying'; out but if it is, keep your distance and wear some eye protection. Turn the car off after just 20-30 seconds so it is not saturated with oil and see where it is coming from.
Start at the top and work down (careful if its hot) run your finger along the edges of the intake manifold and see if there is any oil on your finger. Run your finger along the valve cover. See if there is oil coming from the seam where the heads meet the block (if there is a head gasket leak then you should notice oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil).
Your description says that ';the drivers side header is full of oil'; are you saying that there is oil INSIDE the header or just on the outside of the header? If there is oil INSIDE the header then you probably have a valve seal that is shot and oil is coming past the valve into the exhaust port.
Post some more of the symptoms so we can help out a little more. Is there noticable black grime coming out of your tail pipes? Is there oil in the coolant? Or coolant in the oil?
Take off your valve cover and see where the impression of the head is on the gasket. Some times when you install them they will not sit evenly on the head and it will not seal resulting in a leak. Also, did you verify the torque on your valve covers? Are you using a rubber valve cover gasket?
Sorry to hear about your brother passing. I don't think I was the one that your brother contacted about this vehicle but I would be happy to answer any questions you might have about the vehicle.
The blue smoke in your other question is from oil as some people stated. It could be piston rings (oil rings, not compression rings) or worn or shot valve seals. Were you able to eliminate the blue smoke issue?
This is a LONG shot but see if your spark plugs have oil on them. If your oil rings are shot on your pistons then oil could be getting past and pushing out of the spark plug holes (if your spark plugs are not tight) and ending up on your headers. Again, this is a long shot but Im trying to throw ideas out thereI have oil leakage problem every time I give the car gas out of right side of engine, why?
Clean it so you can find the leak easier and have someone push on the gas while you watch for the leak.
